About — Kalns Ltd.
Kalns Ltd. was founded in 1994 and over the past thirty-two years has grown into a stable furniture manufacturing company with its own workshop in Jūrmala.
Our accumulated experience — custom furniture made to individual orders, collaboration with architects and designers, office and banking equipment, home and apartment interiors. The workshop is staffed by highly skilled joiners, and every project is realized from the choice of wood to on-site installation.
What we make
Solid-wood, veneered, and laminated bent-wood furniture from veneer and laminate. We deliver interior projects and build staircases, bar and shop fittings, and banking equipment. Professional craftsmen also produce turned and carved woodwork. All manufactured furniture carries a 24-month warranty from the date of delivery.
Notable projects
Over thirty years we have delivered projects for clients including Swedbank AS, Samsung Electronics Baltics, Pasaules Optika, and hundreds of private clients across Latvia. Kalns Ltd. has been installing its furniture in Swedbank AS branches for more than thirty years.
Quality and longevity
The quality and longevity of our work are determined by high-grade finishing materials and a careful tradition of fine joinery. We have worked this way since day one.
Materials beyond solid wood
Solid wood is our primary choice, but complete projects usually require integration of other materials. We routinely work with veneers and laminates — for details where solid wood isn’t functionally optimal (interior carcasses, large panels). For kitchen and banking worktops we use engineered stone surfaces (Silestone, Dekton, Caesarstone), combining heat durability with visual fit alongside wood. In vitrines, partitions and staircases we incorporate glass (safety glass, retro-patterned layered glass), and for complex structural projects — metal frames, welded and primed either at our workshop or in partnership with Riga-based metal shops.
Hardware and finishes — only proven brands
Thirty years in, we’ve tried a lot. Today we work only with hardware that carries ten-plus years of industrial warranty. Our standard partners:
- Drawer runners and mechanisms — Blum (Austria) and Hettich (Germany)
- Hinges, closing systems, hardware — Grass (Austria), Häfele (Germany)
- Natural oils and waxes — Osmo (Germany), Rubio Monocoat (Belgium), Treatex (UK). These brands are food-safe and preserve the wood’s natural grain structure.
- Water-based lacquers for professional projects — Sikkens, Sayerlack
This hardware and finish selection is not the cheapest on the market, but it’s why we can confidently offer a 24-month warranty on the complete finished piece. The food-safe oils and waxes are also why our children’s furniture is safe even for infants.
Collaboration with architects and designers
Over thirty years we’ve built stable relationships with several Latvian architecture and interior design practices. This means two things:
- If you already have an architect or designer — we work as their trusted manufacturer, accepting drawings, advising on materials, and realising the project to spec.
- If you don’t — we can recommend proven partners depending on the project type (private home, commercial interior, restoration). We’ve done this many times — and clients typically appreciate that we can coordinate the whole chain in one place.
This collaboration is one reason many of our commercial clients (banks, retail chains) return to us for multiple projects — the process is already proven.
